Books "I cannot live without books" Thomas Jefferson 1815
02/14/2008 We've found a number of good books recently we'd like to share with you.
Raising Puppies and Kids together - A Guide for Parents by Pia Silvani and Lynn Eckhardt This book has lots of common sense tips and idea's to make the whole situation of kids and puppies together manageable, fun and safe for all concerned.
For the Love of the Dog - Understanding Emotion in you and your Best Friend By Patricia McConnell Ph.D. I loved this book!!! The name says it all.
Parenting your Dog by Trish King Trish is in charge of training a the Marin County Humane Society and does a lot of training the trainers for Association of Pet Dog Trainers. She does a great job in this book of comparing raising our children to raising our dogs and how they, in many ways, aren't all that different. Well, you know what I mean.
Cesar's Way The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems by Cesar Milan Another book I loved. Although I am a fan of positive reinforcement for training and teaching a dog new things, I've long believed it did not work well for correcting bad behavior. I think Cesar's Way brings some common sense to dealing with problems. And aside from that, I think Cesar's personal story which is a big part of this book is inspirational and shows what determination and hard work can achieve. What a great success story!
Planet Dog - A doglopedia by Sandra and Harry Choron A fun book with a wealth of facts and trivia about all things dog.
Dogs in their Gardens by Page Dickey After a career in horticulture and then a 5 or so year time out from doing any gardening at all I decided it was time this year to get back to the earth. I purchased a few dog/gardening books and this was a favorite. Lots of great pictures of real dogs in real gardens and it even featured a Chicago garden with a couple of Tibetans!
How to Raise a Puppy you can Live With by Rutherford and Neil My new favorite puppy rearing book! This is a good book for both breeders and new owners alike.
To Come - Next Time ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cookbooks With the summer here it didn't seem right to pass up all the great weather and sunshiny days to be inside cooking for the dogs, but as soon as the weather cools off I'll share all the great cookbooks acquired last winter and what my pack thought were some of the better ones.
