~Ivy Gables Tibetan Terriers~
Quality Breeder of Show, Pet and Performance Puppies
About Us
Clockwise from top Amber, Missy Penny, Sarah, Cocoa Ivy Gables started in 1997 with the purchase of our first Tibetan Terrier, Sarah. Sarah is a sable and white dog and my first show dog, although I had many dogs growing up and had even been a foster parent for an organization in Denver that rescued homeless dogs. Before she was 10 months old Sarah had been through a puppy class, 2 basic classes, a pre-open class and an agility class. I found her to be very intelligent and a willing participant in all of this once I found out what motivates a Tibetan. I was sold on the breed. The following year I purchased 2 more dogs. One of those was my Annie, who went on to become a multiple best in show dog. Shortly after that we (the dogs and I) moved to Virginia where we reside now on 3 acres in a rural area that is very dog friendly. I have continued to show my dogs which now include dogs I have bred and a few more purchased to balance out our family. All dogs at Ivy Gables are members of the family. We do have a kennel area in the house but mostly the dogs are in the living area with me or in our large fully fenced yard. They have the option of being in or out as we have doggie doors that allow them access to the yard when they choose. They are my companions first, and show dogs second and are treated accordingly. Puppies are fully socialized from the time they are born. They are whelped in my office area where I spend the majority of my time during the day and then moved to the living room area at about 2-3 weeks. Tibetan Terriers are great Mom's and would hate having their puppies around other dogs and people any earlier than that. The pups are held and cuddled from the time they are born so they are fully use to the human touch early in life. In November of 2002 my 2 grandchildren ages 2 1/2 and 4 came to live with us so now all puppies are also used to young children by the time they leave here. Parents are tested for the appropriate health clearances prior to being bred. This includes OfA exrays for the hips to ensure they have no signs of hip dysplasia and having them examined annually by a licensed ophthalmologist and cleared of any eye disorders, after which they are registered with the Canine Eye Registration Foundation....this is called being "CERF'd in the dog world. We are proud of the dogs we breed and of the dogs that live here and produce these wonderful puppies. We have sold puppies to families all over the United States and even have one in England. Feel free to call to arrange a time to meet our dogs and see if this is the breed for you.
